The Big Blue women's volleyball team took the court at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Ill. for the first time of the 2023 season on Wednesday, September 13 in their College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin opener against Elmhurst. Millikin proved victorious in the 3-1 contest.

Millikin took the first set 25-17, taking an early lead then using a late run with Alyssa Frederking behind the service line to cap off the contest.

Elmhurst bounced back, taking a close second set by a 22-25 margin when a Jada Wiley kill sealed the tightly contested set. The relentless Millikin squad saw a tight set early in the third, but pulled away after a kill by Kyra Carothers gave them a 14-10 lead. The Big Blue surrendered one more point on a kill by Elmhurst's Kali Phillips, then Millikin rattled off seven straight points with Kaitlyn Skowronski behind the service line to take set three 25-11.

Millikin once again jumped out to an early lead in the fourth set, when two Gracie Shaffer back-to-back service aces put MU up 10-4. The 25-13 set was sealed with a kill off the hand of Kailee Itzenhuiser, giving the Big Blue their first CCIW win of the season.

Itzenhuiser led the way in kills with 13. Delaney Higgins added nine. Shaffer served up five service aces, and Taylor added four. Carothers added three blocks to her season totals. Shaffer topped the assists column with 22, Frederking chipped in 18. Sophia Howell was the digs leader with 14, and Itzenhuiser added 12.

Millikin outkilled Elmhurst 49-39 in the contest.
