Carothers named CCIW Defensive Player of the Week

NAPERVILLE – The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced its Women's Volleyball Student-Athletes of the Week on Monday for matches played between Monday, Oct. 21 and Sunday, Oct. 27.

Hitter: Caroline Capps, Wheaton, Senior (Middletown, Del.)
Capps led Wheaton to a pair of CCIW wins last week, averaging 4.94 points and 4.38 kills across eight sets. Capps smashed a career-high 23 kills to go along with 22 digs last Wednesday in the Thunder's come-from-behind win versus Carroll. She followed with 12 kills on 29 swings and three service aces in a sweep of Elmhurst on Saturday.

Capps finished the week with a 275 hitting percentage and also added 3.50 digs per set.

Setter: Maddi Barickman, North Central, Senior (Geneseo, Ill.)
Barickman continued her run as the league leader in assists last week, averaging 11.57 assists in two matches for the Cardinals.

Now a three-time CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week in 2024, Barickman logged 48 assists, nine digs and three service aces in last Friday's match at Augustana. She had 33 more assists, six digs and two block assists the following day in a three-set sweep of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Defensive: Kyra Carothers, Millikin, Sophomore (Quincy, Ill.)
Carothers compiled 13.0 total blocks in three more wins for the ninth-ranked Big Blue.

In last Wednesday's CCIW win versus North Park, Carothers contributed three solo blocks and a pair of block assists to go along with 11 kills on the offensive side. Carothers tacked on a solo block and three block assists Friday versus Simpson, then another solo and three more assists in Friday's victory over Albion.
