Men's Basketball Victorious in Overtime over Knox

The Millikin men's basketball team opened up their 2024-25 home campaign at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Ill. on Tuesday, November 12 against Knox College. It took overtime to settle the game, but the Big Blue proved victorious, 87-82.

With a two point advantage at the halftime break, Millkin held onto a 74-70 lead with two minutes to go after a steal and dunk by Lane Thomann. But, the Prairie Fire hit two free throws with 1:25 to go, then after an MU turnover they capitalized with a second chance layup by Sean Gallery to tie the game at 74 apiece with 41 seconds to go.

In overtime, Nate Straughter connected from beyond the arc to extend Millikin's lead to six with 3:10 left in the extra period. After Knox clawed their way back and tied the game again, it was Straughter again with a three with 1:24 left on the clock to give MU an 85-82 advantage, then he extended the lead with a layup with three seconds remaining to push the lead to 87-82.

Straughter was the leading scorer with 26 points. Thomann recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Knox was led by Cole Andrews with 18 points.
