Slow Offensive Start Plagues Men's Basketball in Loss at Illinois College

The Millikin men's basketball team got off to a slow start in their third game of the season at Illinois College on Wednesday, November 20. The Big Blue fell in the contest 53-65, unable to recover from a 16-point first half performance.

Millikin shot just 22.2% from the field in the first half, going 6-for-27 overall, 2-for-11 from three point range. They turned things around in the second half to shoot 14-for-34 and score 37 second half points to the 5-0 Blueboys.

Noah Livingston was the leading scorer for MU, tallying 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting in 16 minutes and going 4-for-4 at the charity stripe. Nate Straughter went 5-for-10, 3-for-7 from three-point land to score 13 for Millikin. JT Welch was the leading rebounder with six.

Illinois College's balanced scoring attack was led by Josh Harris with 16 points. Three other players eclipsed the double digit scoring mark with Austin Robinson scoring 12, and Buzz Ritzel and Jaylen Swinney each contributing 10 apiece. Swinney's was good enough for a double-double with 12 rebounds.

Tonight's matchup was the first of four in the next eleven days for Big Blue men's basketball. They'll head back to Decatur for a trio of home games, starting Saturday, November 23 when they meet Berea College for a 4:00 PM tipoff.
