Vogels Selected for NCAA Emerging Elite Program

In honor of College Sports Communicators Member Appreciation Week, the Millikin University Athletic Department would like to recognize Morgan Vogels, Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communciations, on being chosen for the inaugural class of the NCAA Division III Athletic Communicators Emerging Elite Program. 

One of thirty up-and-coming athletic communicators across NCAA Division III chosen, Vogels was nominated for participation in the program that will take place December 9-10 at the NCAA National Office in Indianapolis, Ind. In addition to the in-person program in Indianapolis, all participants will be able to receive a one-time complimentary registration to the next College Sports Communicators (CSC) UNITE convention, held annually in June.

Vogels joined the Millikin University Athletics staff in February 2021 as the Assistant Sports Information Director. She was promoted to Sports Information Director in August of 2023. In October 2024, Vogels was named Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communication taking on additional duties managing the department's student workforce. 

Since joining the Millikin Athletics staff full time, Vogels has played a major role in the hosting of three College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Tournament events, as well as four NCAA Regionals and Super Regionals. She served as Millikin's administrator during softball's run to Salem, Va. in 2022. In addition to being the primary contact for twelve sports, her role has also included social media management, designing materials for both print and social media, management of event student workers, and serving as the athletics representative on multiple campus committees. She played an integral role in Millikin being named the host of the 2027 NCAA Division III Softball Tournament Finals, submitting the institution's bid for the honor.

A former women's basketball player for the Big Blue, Morgan began working in the Sports Information Office as an undergraduate spending three and a half years working in the operation. She previously spent her first two years working as a counselor in Millikin's Office of Admission, while remaining a part of the game day staff for the department on a part-time basis.
 
Vogels graduated from Millikin in December 2018 with a double major of Communication and English-Writing.

Throughout 2024, the Division III governance staff worked to create the Athletic Communicators Emerging Elite Program in partnership with College Sports Communicators staff and D3SIDA and the CSC Division III Cabinet - the leadership group for Division III members within the CSC organization.

The program's goal is to provide professional development and networking opportunities for athletic communicators, particularly those early in their careers seeking to advance to a director-level position or those who have recently become a director. Topics discussed will cover a variety of professional development areas which may include leadership training, networking, positioning yourself to oversee a staff, collaboratiions, culture-building, navigating expanded responsibilities and more. This Athletic Communicators Emerging Elite Program will be held annually in December in Indianapolis.
