Men’s Basketball Falls in Double Overtime

The Millikin men's basketball team lost to Berea College 80-77 in double overtime on November 23 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
 
Berea led 34-26 at halftime with Millikin never being ahead in regulation during the first two halves.
 
Drake Stevenson scored four straight points pulling the Big Blue with a 61-61 with 1:21 left in regulation. Demetris Phillips gave Berea the lead with one minute left. Stevenson scored a layup at the buzzer to tie the game at 63-63 and send the game into the first overtime. 
 
Each team scored five points in the first overtime. Nate Straughter gave Millikin a 66-65 lead early in the overtime period on a three-pointer. Lane Thomann gave Millikin a three point advantage with a basketball to make it 68-65 with three minutes left in the overtime. Berea's Bryce Riley scored a basket with 2:14 left in overtime number to tie the game at 68-68. Neither team scored in the final two minutes.
 
Berea hit two-three pointers in the second overtime to pullout to a six point lead and outscored the Big Blue 12-9 in the session.
 
Lane Thomann led Millikin with 23 points followed by Straughter with 15 and JT Welch with 14. Drake Stevenson had 10 points and a team high eight rebounds.
 
Phillips led Berea with 18 points.
 
Millikin shot 46 percent (29-63) from the field while Berea hit on 30-67 (45 percent).
