Millikin Men Down Spartans

The Millikin men's basketball headed into Thanksgiving with a 49-45 win over Aurora University Spartans on November 26 at the Griswold Center in Decatur.
 
Millikin trailed for most of the game with the Spartans holding the lead for over 30 minutes. The game featured seven lead changes and five ties. Aurora led 27-19 at halftime time, but the Big Blue used a 10-0 run in the first five minutes of the second half to get back in the game. Millikin led 29-27 on a Frazier Ott basket with 15:23 left to play. Neither team would lead by more than two point over the next eight minutes. Aurora went up by four points 39-35 with 7:20 left in the game on a basket by Joevonn McCottry. After four minutes of play, Millikin made its move in the final three minutes. Lane Thomann's basket put the Big Blue up 44-43 with 2:34 remaining. Thomann would push the advantage to 47-43 with 1:38 to go on a basketball and free throw. Noah Livingston would hit to free throws in the final 10 seconds of the game to seal the victory.
 
Millikin shot 19-52 (36.5 percent) from the field while Aurora went 16-47 (34 percent) from the field. The Spartans won the rebounding battle 36-29.
 
Thomas lead Millikin with 15 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals. JT Welch added 10 points. Chase Travis had seven points and seven rebounds. Demarcus Bond had seven points, four rebounds and four steals.
 
McCottry led the Spartans with 11 points.
 
Millikin is now 2-3 while Aurora falls to 1-4.
