Men's Basketball Wins Close Battle over Franklin

The Big Blue men's basketball team matched up against Franklin College on Saturday, November 30 in their fourth game in 11 days. Millikin was victorious in the close contest, winning 64-61. Last season when the two teams met, it was decided in the Grizzlies' favor on a buzzer beater.

Millikin held an 11 point lead at halftime, outscoring the Grizzlies 35-24 in the first 20 minutes. After the break, the lead was quickly erased with Frankin going on an 11-0 run in the first four and a half minutes to tie the game at 35 apiece. The game continued in a back-forth-pattern with six lead changes and five more tie scores.

Down two with 59 seconds remaining on the clock, a Chase Travis three pointer put the Big Blue up one. Franklin quickly responded with a layup with 35 seconds remaining by Jessie Morgan III to flip the advantage. A Lane Thomann layup reversed things once again, then Lynn King of the Grizzlies split a pair of free throws to tie the game at 61-61 with 7.1 seconds remaining. Thomann's left-handed layup followed by an and-one free throw with 0.1 seconds left to tick sealed the win for Millikin.

Thomann was the leading scorer with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Travis chipped in 10 points.

King was the leading scorer for Franklin with 19 points.

Millikin moves to 3-3 with the win. The Big Blue will meet their first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin opponent on Wednesday, December 4 when they travel to Naperville, Ill. to play North Central College.
