Big Blue Baseball Falls in Season Opener

Despite a snowy day in Central Illinois, the Millikin baseball team opened the 2024 season falling at #12 Birmingham Southern College 4-2 in Birmingham, Alabama on February 16.
 
The Big Blue's opening weekend, the BSC Spring Classic, will have Millikin facing three opponents ranked in the top 12 in the country in the D3baseball.com Top 25 preseason poll.
 
The Panthers opened the scoring in the third inning on a home run by Andrew Dutton. Birmingham Southern added two runs in the fifth on a two-run single by Jakob Zito.
 
Millikin got on the board in the seventh. Kelby Golladay and Sam Bushur opened the inning with walks and scored on a double by Ryan Janssen to make it a 3-2 game. The Panthers would add a run in the eighth to make it 4-2.
 
Millikin starter Caleb Buehrle pitched four innings allowing one hit and one earned run.
 
Millikin will face #5 East Texas Baptist University on Saturday at 11 a.m.
