Big Blue Softball Splits on First Day of THE Spring Games

The Millikin softball team began their tenure at THE Spring Games in Clermont, Fla. with matchups against Western New England University and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Sunday, March 17.

Millikin was victorious in their first game of the day, downing WNE 3-0. A double steal was responsible for the first run of the game, as Leah Foreman took off for second with Rylee Blake on third, with the throw down allowing Blake to cross the plate in the third.

The Big Blue tacked on another in the fifth when Foreman reached on an error and Lanie Chizmark scored. The final run came in the sixth when Blake singled to left field to score Emily Kobel.

Blake, Anna Enlow, and Kendallyn Davison each went 2-for-3 from the plate. Kelsey Bruno earned the win in the circle, striking out 12 through seven innings pitched, allowing just two hits.

In game two, the Big Blue got on the board first as the home team, with Chizmark crossing the plate in the third when Foreman reached on an error. A sacrifice fly off the bat of Maddy Regan gave Millikin the two run advantage heading into the fourth when Blake scored.

But, it was all Whitewater from there. The Warhawks scored one in the fourth, two in the fifth, then three in the sixth before adding two more in the top of the seventh to take a six-run lead.

Millikin fell to UWW 2-8 to record a split on the day, pulling to 7-5 on the season. Chizmark went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Charly Warlow took the loss for Millikin, striking out two through 5.1 innings of work.

The Big Blue will be back in action on Monday, March 18 in Clermont with matchups scheduled against Tufts University and Plattsburgh State University.
