Softball Downs Plattsburgh State, Falls to Ranked Tufts in Clermont

The Big Blue softball team took the field after a short rain delay for their second day of play in Clermont, Fla. with matchups against #14 Tufts and Plattsburgh State. 

In game one, the Big Blue fell 1-2 to the Jumbos. In a game that was scoreless until the fourth inning, the first run for Tufts crossed the plate on a wild pitch that ricocheted off the backstop and rolled all the way to third base, allowing Horita to cross the plate. A Jimenez double to left field scored Leimbach for the Jumbos to give them a two run advantage as the home team.

Kendallyn Davison helped chip away at the lead with a single to left field that scored the pinch runner Sarah Lahner in the sixth, but it wasn't enough to erase the deficit. 

Ava Zukowski went 1-for-2 from the plate, and Davison was 1-for-1. 

Kelsey Bruno pitched 4.0 innings, striking out three and allowing four hits. Megan Walker entered the game in relief, striking out two through 2.0 innings of work and allowing three hits.

The Big Blue earned a shutout victory in game two against Plattsburgh State. A sacrifice bunt off the bat of Leah Foreman scored Rylee Blake in the third, then an RBI groundout by Davison scored Blake a second time in the fifth. Blake walked in all three plate appearances. Millikin tacked on one more in the sixth when Lanie Chizmark laid down a squeeze bunt that scored Anna Enlow. 

Enlow and Chizmark each went 1-for-2 at the plate. Charly Warlow earned the complete game shutout victory, striking out two and allowing just four hits through a full 7.0 innings of work.

Millikin softball will have an off day before meeting Ramapo College and Wellesley College on Wednesday, March 20 at the Legends Way Ballfields in Clermont, Fla.
