Softball Beats Ramapo, Falls to Wellesley in Clermont

The Big Blue softball team headed back to the Legends Way Ballfields on Wednesday, March 20 for matchups with Ramapo and Wellesley. Millikin downed Ramapo in a 6-1 contest before falling to Wellesley 2-6. The split marks their third consecutive 1-1 day in Florida.

Against Ramapo, Maddy Regan helped get the Big Blue on the board in the top of the first with a triple to right center that scored Leah Foreman. In the third, Regan delivered again with a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Rylee Blake to cross the plate. The second sacrifice fly of the inning came off the bat of Kailyn Coates, scoring Kendallyn Davison to give MU a 3-0 advantage.

Millikin added another in the fifth with a Foreman single up the middle that plated Blake.

Ramapo chipped away at the deficit with a run of their own in the sixth, but the Big Blue added two more in the seventh when Regan reached on a fielding error to allow Blake to come home for the second time in the game, then Foreman crossed the plate on a Ramapo error.

Foreman was 2-for-2 at the plate in the game. Charly Warlow earned the win in the circle, pitching a full 7.0 innings, striking out three and allowing just six hits to a strong offensive Ramapo squad.

Against Wellesley, the Blue found themselves on the board first as the visitors, putting up a run in each of the first two innings. Millikin looked to erase the two run deficit, starting with a Leah Foreman double to left center that scored Chloe Book

Wellesley added another run in the sixth, and the Big Blue matched it with a Coates groundout RBI to score pinch runner Charley Condill

The top of the seventh saw Wellesley add three more runs, and the Big Blue couldn't match it, falling 2-6.

Millikin recorded just two hits from Foreman and Ava Zukowski. Kelsey Bruno took the loss, with Megan Walker coming in in relief to strike out two.

The Big Blue will head to Hancock Park in Clermont, Fla. for games against Luther College and Grinnell College on Thursday, March 21.
