Millikin Opens CCIW Play with Road Win

The Millikin baseball team opened play in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) with a 5-3 at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Ill. on March 27.
 
The Titans jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third with one run coming on a Dino Briggs home run. Starting pitcher Jacob Cyrus added a run scoring single.
 
Trailing 3-0, Millikin tied the game in the fifth. Millikin took advantage of a walk, two hit by pitches and a Titan error to score the first run of the inning. Kamron Ross had an RBI ground out and Tyler Gade drove home the tying run with a single.
 
Millikin scored the go ahead runs in the sixth on RBI singles from Andy Niebrugge and Liam McGill. Ryan Janssen had two hits in the game for Millikin.
 
Millikin starter Caleb Buehrle was the winning pitcher throwing seven and two-thirds innings allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out 12.
Sean Shook earned the save allowing only one hit over the final one and one-third innings.
 
Millikin is now 10-9, 1-0 while Illinois Wesleyan goes to 10-7, 0-1. The Big Blue travel to Carthage for a weekend series starting on Friday, March 29.
