Big Blue Baseball Sweeps Carthage

The Millikin baseball team swept a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) road doubleheader at Carthage College on March 30 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Millikin won game one 4-3 in 12 innings and took the night cap 14-0 in eight innings.
 
In game one, Carthage led 2-0 after three innings on a pair of RBI singles from Drew Knecht. Millikin got on the board in the fourth with the runs scoring on a double from Ryan Janssen. Carthage went up 3-1 in the fifth on a Millikin miscue. Knecht had three hits in the game for the Firebirds.
 
Millikin battled back with a run scoring single from Sam Bushur in the sixth and an RBI single from Kyle Gibson in the seventh. Janssen drove home the game winning run in the 12th with a single.
 
Millikin had 14 hits led by Gibson with three. Liam McGill, Janssen and Busher each had two hits.
 
Starting pitcher Drew Detmers threw eight innings allowing 11 hits and two earned runs with five strikeouts. Nash Mose threw one scoreless inning. Sean Shook was the winner in relief throwing innings without allow a hit and striking out four.
 
Millikin keep up its offensive attack in game two with 19 hits and 14 runs. Leading 2-0, the Big Blue scored three runs in the seventh and nine runs in the eighth. Gibson, Shaw, Bushur and Niebrugge each had three hits for Millikin with Shaw and Niebrugge each having a double. Gibson had two RBI. Tyler Gade had two hits and two RBI. Liam McGill had a double and two RBI. Janssen had a hit and drove in two.
 
Carthage was limited to four hits with Landon Johnson earning the win allowing no runs and striking out four in seven innings of work. Brody Stonecipher recorded the final three outs including two strikeouts.
 
Millikin is now 12-10 overall and 3-1 in CCIW play. Carthage is now 12-5, 1-2.
