Millikin Rolls Past Fontbonne

The Millikin baseball team rolled to a 12-1 seven inning victory over Fontbonne University on April 17 at the Workman Family Baseball Field in Decatur, Illinois.
 
Big Blue senior Tommy Shaw went 2-3 in the game with three RBI setting a new Millikin record for hits in a career at 188. The old record of 187 was set by Travis Beer from 2000 to 2003.
 
Millikin scored one run in the first, three in the second and seven in the third to take control of the game. The Big Blue added a run in the fifth. Fontbonne's run came in the second inning.
 
Tyler Gade set the offensive tone for the Big Blue leading off the bottom of the first with a triple. Gade was 2-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Hayden Stork and Liam McGill each had two hits and two runs scored for Millikin. Kyle Gibson had two RBI after a bases-loaded walk and a run scoring single.
 
Despite giving up six walks, Millikin pitching held Fontbonne to just two hits on the game. Drew Sutton was the winning pitcher throwing two and two-thirds innings of relief allowing one hit and striking out two.
 
Millikin improves to 17-12 while Fontbonne goes to 13-19.
 
The Big Blue's game against Webster rescheduled for Thursday, April 18 has been postponed due to storms in the evening's forecast.
 
Millikin returns to conference play on Saturday at Carroll University with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
