Millikin Baseball Sweeps Illinois Wesleyan

The Millikin baseball team swept a doubleheader against Illinois Wesleyan University on April 27 at the Workman Family Baseball in Decatur. Millikin won game one 12-0 in seven innings and took game two 9-1 giving the Big Blue the three game season sweep as well.
 
The Big Blue and Titans opened the day in a three-way tie with North Park for the top spot in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). With the sweep, Millikin improved to 13-3, 23-13 while the Titans fall to 22-11, 11-5.
 
In game one, Millikin scored twice in the first inning. Kyle Gibson drew the first of his three walks in game to get things going. Tommy Shaw and Andy Neibrugge followed with base hits setting the stage for a two-run scoring single from Liam McGill. The Big Blue blew open the game with a 10 run fifth inning spurred by two Illinois Wesleyan errors. Shaw had two RBI singles in the inning. McGill and Kameron Ross both drew bases loaded walks. Tyler Gade had three-run double. Shaw had three hits in the game.
 
Caleb Buehrle pitched all seven innings for the win allowing only four hits and striking out six.
 
Justin Gadomski had two of the Titans four hits.
 
Millikin again jumped out in front early in game two scoring twice in the first and twice in the second. Shaw had an RBI double and Bushur and run scoring single in the Big Blue first inning. Ross and Gad had RBI singles in the second.
 
JP Ferraro had an RBI single to get the Titans on the board in the sixth.
 
Millikin added three in the seven and two in the eighth to extend their lead.
Shaw had three more hits in game two. McGill went 4-5 with two RBI.
 
Drew Detmers was the winning pitcher throwing six innings allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out six. Drew Sutton threw two shutout innings in relief with three strikeout. Griffin Neuweg pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
 
Millikin plays at Elmhurst on Sunday at 2 p.m.
