Softball Records Second Twin Bill Split of Weekend

The Big Blue softball team matched up against Carroll University on Sunday, April 28 for a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin doubleheader. In their second twin bill split of the weekend, Millikin fell in game one 0-2 before winning game two 11-2 in five innings.

It took just one swing to make a difference in game one with a Madison Palasz single up the middle in the third inning that plated Avery Sorochan and Kiana Johnson. The low scoring contest saw Millikin strand nine runners on base while Carroll stranded eight.

Charly Warlow pitched all seven innings, allowing just four hits and striking out four. Maddy Regan went 2-for-3 at the plate in game one.

In game two, the Big Blue's bats awoke, scoring 11 runs. They got things rolling in the third, starting with an RBI sacrifice bunt off the bat of Charley Condill to score Anna Enlow.

In the fourth, Enlow's ground rule double with the bases loaded scored Emily Kobel and Katlyn Schraeder. Kendallyn Davison followed things up with another bases loaded ground rule double to score Enlow and Lanie Chizmark to give Millikin the 5-0 advantage. Millikin kept tacking on runs, first when Schraeder walked with the bases loaded to score Rylee Blake. Then, Ava Zukowski was hit by a pitch to walk in Davison. Kobel delivered a single to right field that scored Schraeder and Leah Foreman. The ninth run of the inning came on a single through the left side off the bat of Chizmark to score Zukowski.

Up 10-0, the Big Blue added one more in the fifth when Ann Marie Meek's lineout to left field allowed Abby Willis to score on the sacrifice fly.

Carroll put up two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth, but it was not enough to erase the 8+ run deficit.

In game two, Kobel, Chizmark, and Enlow each with 2-for-3 at the plate. Kelsey Bruno earned the win in the circle, striking out four and allowing two hits. Megan Walker struck out one in relief, and Abby Wilken tossed the final inning for the Big Blue.

With an 8-6 record, the Big Blue currently sit in fourth place in the CCIW standings. Millikin will host their final conference doubleheader of the season on Saturday, May 4 when the Vikings of North Park University travel to Decatur.
