Millikin Baseball Wins at North Central

The Millikin baseball team rallied from a 7-0 deficit to defeat North Central College 9-7 on May 1 in Naperville, Illinois in an important College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) road contest.

The win was Millikin's ninth straight win and improved the Big Blue's record to 25-12 overall and 15-3 in CCIW play. Millikin has two conference games remaining and it's in first place by percentage points over North Park who is 14-3 in conference action. Millikin hosts Wheaton in a doubleheader on Saturday, May 3 at 1 p.m. to finish off conference play. The Vikings end the season with a three-game series at Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington starting on Friday.

North Central jumped out to an early lead with three runs in each of the first two innings. The Cardinals lead 7-0 after five innings. Millikin rallied with sixth runs in the sixth inning aided by two North Central errors to get back in the game. The big blow in the inning was a three-run home run by Tommy Shaw.

Millikin took an 8-7 lead in the eighth inning. Kyle Gibson walked to start the inning followed by a Shaw hit-by-pitch. Ryan Janssen then singled to tie the game at 7-7. Two outs later, Liam McGill's base hit game the Big Blue the lead. Millikin added an insurance run in the ninth on a Gibson sacrifice fly.

Millikin had 13 hits in the game with five players collecting two hits including Tyler Gade, Shaw, Janssen, Andy Neibrugge and Kameron Ross.
Nash Mose was credited with the win and Caleb Buehrle pitched the final two innings for the save.
