Millikin Baseball Opens CCIW Tourney with Win

The Millikin baseball team opened the 2024 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Baseball Tournament with a 12-2 seven inning victory over Augustana College on May 10 in Chicago, Illinois.
 
Millikin, the two seed, advances to play the top seed North Park Vikings on its home field on Saturday, May 11 at 2 p.m.
 
The Big Blue scored in each of the first four innings. Millikin scored one in the first, five in the second and three in each the third and fourth innings.
 
Millikin pounded out 11 hits and drew nine walks. Kyle Gibson got the offense going with a one out double in the first. He later scored on a single by Sam Bushur.
 
The Vikings answered with two runs in the top of the second. The Big Blue then answered with five runs to take a 6-2 lead. Tyler Gade had an RBI single in the second to tie the game at 2-2. Ryan Janssen gave Millikin the lead with a two-run single. Millikin's final two runs came on bases-loaded walks to Andy Neibrugge and Liam McGill.
 
Gibson's two run homer in the third made it 8-6. Gibson and Janssen had RBI singles in the fourth.
 
Gibson finished the day with three hits, four runs scored and three RBI. Janssen had three hits and three RBI.
 
Caleb Buehrle was the winning pitcher for Millikin throwing all seven innings allowing two runs on four hits with two strikeouts.
 
Millikin improves to 27-14 while the Vikings go to 25-16. North Park defeated Carthage College 4-1 in Friday's opening game.
