Millikin Drops NCAA Opener

The Millikin baseball team lost its opening game at the NCAA DIII Granville, Ohio Regional 10-6 to Rowan University on May 17 at Denison University.
 
After having the start time of the game pushed back twice by rain, Millikin wasted no time getting on the board scoring two runs in the first. Tommy Shaw doubled and later scored on a Ryan Janssen home run.
 
Rowan answered with three in the bottom of the first. Dylan Maria and Jason Morgan each had sacrifice flies and Karson Harcourt had a run scoring single to make it 3-2 Profs after one.
 
The Big Blue had its second home run of the game in the second inning from Andy Neibrugge to tie the game.
 
Rowan added two more in the bottom of the second on a run scoring single from Pat Defeciani and another sacrifice fly from Maria. The Profs lead 5-3 after two.
 
The Profs added single runs in the fifth and seventh innings and three runs in the eighth.
 
Millikin battled back in the ninth with three runs. Sam Bushur opened the inning with a double and scored on a single by Neibrugge. Later pinch hitter Lucas Ryan and Shaw drew a bases loaded walks.
 
Neibrugge later added a double and single to finish the game with three hits. The Big Blue's Hayden Stork had two hits including a double and walk.
 
Millikin (29-15) will now face Hanover College on Saturday, May 17 at 12 p.m. ET in an elimination game. Rowan (28-13) will face Denison who won its opening game 15-1 over Hanover.
