Women's Tennis Competes at ITA Regionals

The Big Blue women's tennis team sent two players to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Tournament hosted by Kalamazoo College from September 27-29. Cristina Borunda and Emily Markus competed together as a doubles pair as well as in the singles competition.

After falling in the opening round to Alayna Campbell of Saint Mary's in the opening round 3-6, 4-6, Borunda fell in a close 5-7, 4-6 match to Anna Fletcher of Capital.

Markus also fell in her opening singles match 0-6, 3-6 to Charlotte Johns out of Denison. She bounced back after a bye, receiving a win by walkover over Eleni Bougioukou from Oberlin to advance to the round of 16. She fell in a tiebreaker, falling in the first set 5-7 before rallying to take set two 6-1. The 11-13 tiebreaker ended her singles campaign, falling to Anna Pastore out of Oberlin. 

On the doubles side, they matched up with Jenna Bell and Caroline Robinson out of Ohio Northern University, falling 4-8. After a bye to take them to the consolation bracket's round of 16, they fell to Peja Liles and Daryn Krause of the host Kalamazoo in a 4-6 match.

Women's tennis will head north to Wisconsin for matchups with Carthage College and Carroll University over the weekend to continue their CCIW schedule.
