Millikin Women’s Basketball Knocks off Bluejays

The Millikin women's basketball team defeated Elmhurst University 72-62 on January 18 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
 
Millikin recovered from a slow start to led 18-13 at the end of the first quarter. The Bluejays started the game with a 7-0 run and led 13-6 with three minutes left in the first quarter. A three-pointer from Matayia Tellis started a Big Blue 12-0 run to close out the period. Tellis would connect on two three-pointers during the run.
 
Millikin led 36-23 at halftime. Elmhurst outscored Millikin 20-14 in the third fueled by a 12 point outburst from Kristen Butaka. The Big Blue led 50-43 at the end of the quarter.
 
Millikin was led by freshman Nikkel Johnson with a double double with career highs with points with 23 and rebounds with 17. Senior Bella Dudley added  a career high 18 points for Millikin followed by Tellis with 16. Tellis shot 4-6 from three-point range in the game.
 
Butaka led Elmhurst with 29 points with 21 points coming in the second half. Sierra Gibson added 15 points.
 
Millikin shot 41 percent (24-59) from the field and went 6-16 (37.5 percent) from three-point range. Elmhurst shot 40 percent (25-62) from the field. Millikin won the rebounding battle 45-29.
 
Millikin is now 5-11, 4-3 while Elmhurst goes to 10-5, 2-5.
