Men's Basketball Topped by League-Leading Vikings

The Big Blue men's basketball team matched up against one of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin leading squads on Saturday, January 25 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Ill. Millikin found themselves in fourth place after the first half of conference play with a 4-4 record, with Illinois Wesleyan, North Park, and Carthage in a three-way tie for first place at 7-1. The Big Blue fell to North Park in Saturday's contest in a close battle, 61-69. 

The teams went into the halftime break tied at 33 apiece, with the Big Blue shooting 56.5% from the field and North Park shooting 41.9%. 

Millikin was led by Lane Thomann with 20 points on 6-for-9 shooting from the field. Nate Straughter added 14 points, and DeMarcus Bond was the leading rebounder with seven. The Big Blue were plagued by turnovers in the matchup, with 25 overall in the game. 

North Park was led by Rico Powell with 20 points, and Davante Robinson added 17. Powell was their leading rebounder with five.

Millikin took a five point lead with 15:21 left to tick in the second half on a layup by Drake Stevenson to bring the score to 41-36. North Park tied things up then took a six point lead of their own with 9:48 left on the clock. The Vikings held the lead from then on, growing the lead to as many as 10 in the final minutes of play. 

Millikin will be back in Griswold on Wednesday, January 29 when they meet North Central College in a 7:00 PM contest.
