Late Game Comeback Falls Short in Men's Basketball's Loss against North Central

The Big Blue men's basketball team took the court at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Ill. for their second matchup of the year against the Cardinals of North Central College on Wednesday, January 29.

Millikin found themselves down 12 at the half, going into the break with a 24-36 deficit. After being down as many as 13 in the second half, Lane Thomann accounted for 11 straight points to bring the Big Blue within four points with 28 seconds left to tick. The Cardinals kept their composure at the free throw line, sinking 3-of-5 and converting on two baskets to maintain the lead and thwart the Big Blue's comeback efforts late.

Thomann led the way for the Big Blue with 21 points on 9-for-16 shooting, 3-for-5 from three point land. Chase Travis added 12 points. Tionne Spates was the leading rebounder with eight. Millikin outshot the Cardinals 41.5% compared to NCC's 40%

Tyler Swierczek was the leading scorer for the Cardinals with 20 points on 7-for-13 shooting. Terrance Moncrief added 18 points.

With the loss, the Big Blue move to 4-6 in conference play, and North Central pulls even with Millikin for a tie for fourth place in the league. Millikin will travel north on Saturday, February 1 to meet the Pioneers of Carroll University for a 4:15 PM tipoff.
