Men's basketball traveled to Waukesha, Wis. on Saturday, January 31 for a matchup with the Pioneers of Carroll University looking to snap a two-game College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin skid.Â
With the game tied at 62 apiece with mere seconds remaining, Chase Travis made a layup to give the Big Blue the lead.Â
Travis scored a career-high 21 points in the game on 9-for-12 shooting. Lane Thomann was the leading scorer with 23 points. Drake Stevenson grabbed seven rebounds for Millikin.Â
The Big Blue went 23-for-45 from the field to shoot 51.1% on the game.Â
Erik Victorson was the leading scorer for the the Pioneers with 14.Â
The Big Blue went into the locker room at halftime with a 42-29 lead. They extended their lead to as much as 17 early in the second half, but the Pioneers came storming back to pull within single digits just after the 14 minute remaining mark. A three by Aaron Wafford with 5:35 left in the game tied the game at 56 apiece, and the Pioneers took a one point lead, 59-60, on a layup by Lamar Smith with 2:36 left to play. A made free throw by Travis followed by a Tionne Spates layup put the Big Blue back up two.Â
Smith connected on a jumper with 18 seconds remaining to tie the game up, but the layup by Travis helped the Big Blue hang on to secure the road victory.Â
Millikin will be back in action on Wednesday, February 5 when they travel to Elmhurst, Ill. looking to avenge their CCIW first half loss to the Bluejays of Elmhurst University on the road.Â
