Seniors Lift Millikin Women To Win

The Millikin women's basketball team defeated North Central College 80-69 behind a strong night from its four seniors on January 8 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
 
Senior Emily Brenneisen led the way with a career high 26 points going 7-10 from the field including making 4-6 from three-point range. Senior Kyleigh Block followed with 20 points and senior Emily White had 12 points and a team high eight rebounds. Senior Matayia Tellis scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds.
 
Millikin trailed 19-15 after the first quarter before outscoring the Cardinals 18-11 in the second quarter. Millikin led 33-30 at halftime. Millikin opened the third with a 15-4 run and led 48-34 midway through the third quarter.
The Big Blue ended the third quarter on a Brenneisen three-pointers to led 59-42. Millikin pushed the lead to as large as 20 before North Central began climbing back in the game in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals would get as close as seven late in the game before the Big Blue shut the door.
 
Millikin had its best shooting night of the season making 55 percent (27-49) from the field including going 10-17 (59 percent) from beyond the arc.
North Central shot 41 percent from the field (26-64) and made 4-16 from three-point range. Millikin won the rebounding battle 31-29.
 
Biz Daly led North Central with 18 points followed by Josylin Simmons-Doxie with 11.
 
Millikin is now 3-10 overall and 2-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. North Central is now 6-7, 2-2.
