The Millikin University men's soccer team fought through tough weather conditions but fell 4–0 to Wheaton College in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) play on Saturday night.
In a match played under rain, the Big Blue created several strong scoring chances early but were unable to find the back of the net. Wheaton capitalized on a pair of first-half opportunities, to take a 2–0 lead into halftime.
Millikin continued to press forward in the second half, producing 10 total shots in the game. Landon Welch and Bryce Davis each tallied two shots on target to lead the Big Blue attack, while Clayton Gibson, Nick Orr, Blake Helvey, Luke Butler, Eithan Shay, and Ryder Ramson added key efforts offensively.
Goalkeeper Chase Mandra turned in another standout performance for Millikin, recording 10 saves against a high-volume Wheaton offense.
With the loss, Millikin moves to 5–8–1 overall and 1–4–1 in CCIW play. The Big Blue will return to action on October 22 against University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
