Decatur, Ill. – The Millikin University men's basketball team defeated Concordia University Chicago 76–62 on Tuesday night inside the Griswold Center.
Four Big Blue players scored in double figures as Millikin used a balanced attack and a dominant performance in the paint to pull away in the second half. After leading 33–25 at halftime, the Big Blue outscored the Cougars 43–37 over the final 20 minutes to seal the win.
Lane Thomann and senior Nate Straughter led the way with 17 points apiece. Thomann added 12 rebounds, while Straughter was efficient at the free-throw line, going 6-for-6.
Chris Ketchum shot 6-for-8 for 14 points, and Tionne Spates chipped in a strong all-around effort with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Defensively, Millikin held Concordia to just 35.7 percent shooting from the field and 11-of-26 from beyond the arc. Offensively, the Big Blue shot 28-65 from the field for a shooting percentage of 43.1.
Millikin improved to 2–0 with the victory, while Concordia fell to 0–2. The Big Blue return to action this weekend when they travel to Richmond, IN to play Earlham College for non-conference action.
