The Millikin men's basketball team put together a strong all-around performance on Friday night, defeating Augustana College 85–77 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Ill. The win improves the Big Blue to 8–2 overall and 2–1 in CCIW play.
Millikin controlled the contest early, jumping out to a 44–38 halftime lead behind efficient offensive execution and balanced scoring. The Big Blue continued to apply pressure in the second half, extending their advantage and leading for more than 37 minutes of game time.
Nate Straughter led the way with a game-high 24 points, knocking down six three-pointers while adding two rebounds and two steals. Ian Winkler followed with 22 points, dishing out five assists. Lane Thomann delivered another strong performance with 21 points,7 rebounds, three assists, and two steals, giving Millikin three players with 20 or more points in the win.
Millikin shot 51.8% from the field for the game, including 48.0% from beyond the arc, and finished 15-for-24 at the free-throw line. The Big Blue also won the battle on the glass with 36 rebounds and capitalized on opportunities created by Augustana turnovers.
With the victory, the Big Blue continue building momentum as conference play heats up. Millikin will return to action on Friday, December 19 they host Greenville in a non-conference game.
