Men's Basketball Handed Loss at Home by Wheaton

The Millikin men's basketball team matched up against the Thunder of Wheaton College on Wednesday, February 12 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Ill. The Big Blue fell 78-86 in the contest.

Noah Livingston was the leading scorer with 18 points on 7-for-12 shooting. Lane Thomann added 17 points and seven rebounds, and Chase Travis added 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds. JT Welch chipped in 14 points in his return after missing three games.

Millikin shot 36.67% from the field in the first half, but they bounced back in the second half to shoot 42.9% on the game, going 27-for-63 from the field. 

Wheaton shot 50.9% on the game, with Soren Richardson continuing his hot streak, scoring 23 points in the game. Kyan VanderWoude was good for a double-double for the Thunder with 17 points and 13 rebounds. 

The Big Blue were down 32-45 at the half. They rallied in the second half to pull within five on a Frazier Ott free throw make with 10:50 remaining, with the score 54-59. The Big Blue would hang down single digits for the next five minutes, but the Thunder stretched the lead back to 10 on a layup by Noah Hedrick with 4:36 on the clock and never looked back.

Millikin will finish out their 2024-25 regular season with a tough slate, seeing the top two teams in the conference to end the year, meeting Illinois Wesleyan on the road on Saturday, February 15 before closing out the season on their home floor against Carthage on Saturday, February 22.
