Women’s Basketball Falls in Regular Season Finale

The Millikin women's basketball team lost to Carthage College 71-55 on February 22 at the Griswold Center closing out the 2024-25 regular season.
 
Despite the loss, Millikin qualifies for the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament as the six seed. The Big Blue will travel to the four seed Carthage College on Tuesday, Feb. 25 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Millikin ends the regular season 8-17, 7-9 while Carthage finishes 17-8, 9-7.
 
Four seniors made their final Griswold Center appearance for Millikin on Senior Day. Seniors Matayia Tellis and Emily Brenneisen led the way for the Big Blue with 15 points each. Tellis added seven rebounds and three assists. Brenneisen had three rebounds and two assists. Senior Kyleigh Block had four points, two rebounds and two assists. Senior Emily White had three points with two rebounds. Freshman Nikkel Johnson added 11 points for the Big Blue.
 
Carthage had five players score in double figures led by Emma Thistle with 18 points and Marianna Morrissey with 13 and eight rebounds. Emma Carlson had a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Carthage led the entire game shooting 49 percent (29-49) from the field including making 8-12 (67 percent) from three-point range. The Firebirds won the rebounding battle 39-23. Millikin shot 36 percent (19-53) from the field.
