Millikin Baseball Wins Home Opener

In a game originally scheduled for Tennessee, the Millikin baseball team won its unexpected home opener 8-1 over Transylvania University on Feb. 23 at the Workman Family Basketball Field in Decatur, Illinois.
 
Millikin got all the runs it would need in the first inning. Tyler Gade lead off the game with a walk and later scored on sacrifice fly by Andy Niebrugge.
Senior Danny Lack and freshman Julian Cabanin would add run scoring singles to put the Big Blue up 3-0.
 
The Pioneers lone run would come in the second inning with Austin Taylor scoring after walking earlier in the inning.
 
Elliott Fulscher made it a 4-1 Millikin lead with a sacrifice fly in the fourth. In the seventh, Lack picked up an RBI on a bases loaded walk and Fulscher had his second run scoring single of the game. The Big Blue's final run game in the eighth on an RBI single by Sam Bushur scoring Andy Niebrugge who had doubled.
 
Bushur and Lack each had three hits for the Big Blue.
 
Zach O'Donnell improved to 2-0 on the season for Millikin throwing six innings allowing one unearned run on hits with four strikeouts. In his collegiate debut Caleb Askins earned the save pitching three innings allowing no runs and no hits.
 
Millikin will host Benedictine University on Monday at 12 p.m.
