Big Blue Baseball Splits Pair of Games

The Millikin baseball team split a pair of games played at the Workman Family Baseball Field on March 9 in Decatur, Illinois.
 
In the nightcap of a weekend round robin hosted by Millikin, the Big Blue rallied to defeat Coe College 6-5 in a crazy contest.
 
Coe jumped out to a first inning 2-0 lead on a run scoring double from Jake Brosius and a run scoring sacrifice bunt.
 
Millikin made it a 2-1 game in the third on a run scoring single from Sam Bushur scoring Tyler Gade.
 
Leading 3-1 in the sixth, Coe pushed its advantage to 5-1 on a two-run single from Austin Gomez.
 
Millikin tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh. Andy Niebrugge drove home Gade to start the rally. Hayden Stork drew a bases loaded walk to make it 5-3. Julian Cabanin then tied the game on a two-run single.
 
Millikin won the game on a strange eighth inning. Liam McGill walked to open the inning. Gade reached on an errant throw on a sacrifice bunt event. On the play McGill tried to score from first and was throw out at the plate with Gade ending up a second base. Bushur then singled home the go-ahead run.
 
Bushur was 4-4 in the game.
 
Mitchell Eckart, Brosius and C.J. Johnson each had two hits for Coe.
 
Alec Mallinder was the winning pitcher for Millikin throwing one and two-thirds scoreless innings. Nolan Reiman was the first pitcher out of the Millikin pen throwing three innings allowing two hits and one earned run. Max Simpson threw one and two-third scoreless innings.
 
Coe committed four errors in the game.
 
Millikin dropped the first game of the day 5-1 to Wisconsin-Stout. The Blue Devils had a four-run second inning to secure the win.
 
Justin Sedin had two RBIs to lead Stout. Billy Jones, Nolan Harke and Kevin Zanin also had RBIs.
 
Gade had two hits for Millikin and Sam Bushur added an RBI single.
