Softball Suffers Two Losses on Final Day of Tournament Weekend

The Big Blue softball team had a chance at redemption on Sunday, March 9 with a chance to avenge their loss to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point before meeting Hanover on the final day of the Millikin Invitational II at the Workman Family Softball Field.

In game one, the Pointers put up four runs in the first inning to jump out to an early advantage. The Big Blue chipped away at the deficit in the second when Emily Kobel's single up the middle plated Kendallyn Davison. Then, Abby Willis snuck a double down the left field line to score Charley Condill and Kobel to bring the Big Blue within a run. 

But, the Pointers would tack on another run in the third and two more in the fourth to secure a 3-6 win over Millikin.

In the game, Willis went 2-for-3 from the plate. Alyssa Dralle entered hte game early, pitching a full 7.0 innings in relief, striking out three. 

For UWSP, Kaitlyn Roberts was 3-for-3 at the plate.

Against Hanover, the Panthers were on the board first in the second when a Madi Kammer single scored Mal Fultz. The Big Blue would even the score when Ann Marie Meek reached on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded, scoring Ava Zukowski. 

The Panthers jumped back in the lead in the bottom of the inning as the home team on the scoreboard when an Ashley Fulton double plated LauRie Harmless. In the back and forth game, the Big Blue would scratch one across in the sixth on an infield single by Condill that scored Davison.

In the top of the seventh, Haley Willan singled to right center with two outs, then pinch runner Abbey Matthews took over, advancing to third on a single by Anna Enlow. But, a strikeout would send the game to the bottom of the inning with the score still knotted at 2-2. 

Sydney Foy was hit by a pitch to reach base, then despite picking up two outs, a Harmless single plated the winning run on a ball hit in the left center gap to see the Big Blue fall 2-3 in the contest.

Condill, Willan, and Enlow eahc went 2-for-4 from the plate.

Emily Reagan tossed 4.0 innings, striking out one, and Abby Wilken provided 2.2 innings of relief, also tallying one strikeout.

Falling to 2-6 on the season, the Big Blue will head to Cocoa Beach, Fla. for eight games as part of the Space Coast Games beginning Monday, March 17.
