Millikin Baseball Falls at Home to Cardinals

The Millikin baseball team lost a pitchers duel 2-1 over North Central College in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action on April 13 at the Workman Family Baseball Field in Decatur, Illinois.
 
After pounding out 28 runs and 35 hits at North Central on Saturday, the Big Blue were held to one run on six hits.
 
North Central's first three batters of the game had three straight hits. A groundout RBI from Austin Wienke got the Cardinals on the board. The second North Central run would score one batter later on a wild pitch.
 
Millikin's lone run came in the fourth on a Ty Cribbett RBI single scoring Eliot Fulscher who had tripled. Cribbett had two hits in the game for Millikin.
 
Millikin got a stellar pitching outing from starter Caleb Akins. After allowing the first inning runs, Akins held the Cardinals hitless for the next five plus innings allowing only one runner to reach on a Millikin error. For the game, Akins threw all nine innings allowing five hits and no walks while striking out a career high 12 batters.
 
North Central got outstanding pitching as well. Starter Andrew Bollman was the winning pitcher throwing five innings allowing one run on two hits. Payton Diaz earned his fourth save of the season throwing the final four innings allowing only two hits.
 
Millikin falls to 14-15, 4-6 while North Central improves to 14-15, 7-4.
