Millikin Baseball Splits Doubleheader with First Place Firebirds

The Millikin baseball team split a doubleheader with College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) leader Carthage College on April 18 at the Workman Family Baseball Team. The Big Blue won game one 7-4 and the Firebirds took game two 7-0.

Millikin took control of game one with a five run third inning. Kolby Koslofski drove in the first run with a single and Hayden Stork's sacrifice fly made it 2-0. Millikin's rally was kept alive by a two out Carthage error that scored a run. Andy Niebrugge made it 5-0 with a two-run double. Millikin only had six hits in the game taking advantage of four walks to two Firebirds errors.

Carthage answered in the top of the fourth with a three-run home run by Collin Callahan. Max Cario and Drew Knecht each had two hits in the game.

Starting pitcher Zach O'Donnell improved to 5-3 on the year with the win throwing five innings allowing seven hits and four runs. Nolan Reiman did a great job in middle relief throwing three shutout innings allowing just one hit. Sophomore Will Simpson earned his first collegiate save throwing the ninth inning allowing no runs or hits.

Carthage starter Ryan Scanlon was the story of game two throwing seven and a third innings allowing five hits and no runs with eight strikeouts. Jake Pappagallo allowed just one hit over the final inning and two-thirds.

Callahan went 4-4 with a triple for Carthage driving in two and scoring two. Zander Tubbs had three hits for the Firebirds.

Tyler Gade had two hits for Millikin.

Millikin is now 15-17, 5-8 while Carthage goes to 22-8, 10-3.
