Millikin Baseball Sweeps Weekend Series

The Millikin baseball team completed a three game series sweep at Elmhurst University winning 6-1 on April 27 at Butterfield Park in Elmhurst, Illinois.
 
The Bluejays took a 1-0 lead in the first on a run scoring single from Carson Gnade.
 
The Big Blue answered with a pair of runs in the fifth, three in the seventh and one in the eighth.  Sam Bushur and Tyler Gade had RBI singles in the fifth. Millikin Bushur homered in the seventh to make it a 3-1 game. Andy Niebrugge's two-run home run game Millikin a 5-1 advantage. Millikin's final run came in the eighth on a Bushur run scoring double.
 
Bushur had three hits and three RBI in the game. Gade and Elliot Fulscher each had three hits.
 
For the third straight game Millikin got outstanding pitching with Alec Mallinder earned the win throwing seven and one-third innings allowing three hits and one run with 12 strikeouts. Will Simpson allowed two hits and no runs over the final inning and two-thirds.
 
Millikin improves to 18-18 overall and 8-9 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) and improves the Big Blue chances of securing a spot in the CCIW Tournament. Millikin's final three conference games are on May 2-3 against Wheaton College.
 
The Big Blue played Greenville on April 30 at home in a non-conference game and close out the regular season on Saturday, May 3 with a doubleheader against Wheaton at the Workman Family Baseball Field.
