Softball Opens CCIW Schedule Splitting with Augustana

The Big Blue softball team met their first College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin opponent of the 2025 season on Sunday, April 6 when the Vikings of Augustana traveled to Decatur, Ill. for a doubleheader. Millikin opened their CCIW schedule with a split.

In game one, the Big Blue were the victors in walkoff fashion in a 2-1 contest.

Abby Willis started off the scoring in the third inning, singling to left field and plating Charley Condill from second to scratch one across.

The Vikings tied the game up with one swing when Alexis Duke sent a ball over the left center fence in the top of the sixth.

After a three up, three down top of the seventh with three flyouts, Ann Marie Meek led off the bottom of the inning getting hit by a pitch. A sacrifice bunt off the bat of Ava Zukowski moved pinch runner Abbey Matthews to second. With two outs recorded, Condill stepped to the plate, delivering an infield single and capitalizing on an Augustana throwing error to plate the winning run.

Willis went 3-for-3 in game one from the plate, tallying three of the Big Blue's five hits.

Kelsey Bruno picked up the victory in the circle, pitching a complete game one-hitter and striking out five.

In game two, it was all Augustana. After a scoreless first three innings, Augustana plated one apiece in the fourth and fifth innings, then tacked on three more in the sixth to take a five run lead.

The Big Blue were held to just two hits in game two, from Kailyn Coates and Bella Palermo.

Carly Ward was credited with the loss in game two, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out three.

Millikin will hit the road for Chicagoland on Friday, April 11, first meeting North Park, then traveling to Wheaton to meet the Thunder for their second doubleheader of the weekend.
