Millikin Baseball Shutouts Thunder to Open Series

The Millikin baseball team opened a key College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) with a 6-0 win over Wheaton College on May 2 in Carol Stream, Illinois.

The victory improves Millikin to 9-9 in conference play and strengths the Big Blue's chances of making the CCIW Tournament. Wheaton goes to 8-10 in the CCIW.
The Big Blue sit in fourth place in the conference and winning at least one game on Saturday should lock Millikin into the conference tournament.

Millikin and Wheaton will finish the regular season on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. The games will be played at Lee Pfund Field in Carol Stream instead of the Workman Family Baseball Field as originally scheduled. A rainy forecast for Decatur on Saturday forced the move.

Millikin jumped out to an early lead scoring runs in the second and third and that would be all the Big Blue would need thanks to outstanding pitching from Zach O'Donnell and Nolan Reiman. O'Donnell pitched the first five innings shutting out the Thunder on five hits. Nolan Reiman pitched the final four innings allowing two hits while striking out six to earn his fifth save of the season.

Sam Bushur led the Millikin offense with three hits including a triple and two RBI. Tyler Gade doubled and drove in a run and Hayden Stork had one RBI. Millikin took advance of two Thunder errors, four walks and a balk.

Noah Yi, Jack Gill and Chris Lynam each had two hits for Wheaton.
