Series Sweep Locks Millikin Baseball into CCIW Tournament

The Millikin baseball team won its final six straight conference games (seven) overall to secure a spot in the upcoming College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament. The Big Blue put the exclamation mark on the winning streak with a doubleheader sweep of Wheaton College on May 3 in Carol Stream, Illinois. In games moved from Decatur to Carol Stream due to weather the Big Blue won 9-4 in game one and 12-2 in seven innings in game two.
 
In game one, Millikin scored runs in each of the first two innings to go up 2-0. Wheaton answered with four runs in the fifth to take a 4-2 lead. The Big Blue quickly answered with two to tie the game at 4-4. A four run sixth secure the win for Millikin.
 
Hayden Stork led the Millikin offense with three hits including a double and two runs scored. Sam Busher had two hits with two RBI and three runs scored. Tyler Gade and Kolby Koslofski also had two hits each.
 
The winning pitcher for Millikin was Will Simpson in relief throwing the final four and two-thirds innings allowing no runs on three hits.
 
James Scott led the Thunder with three hits.
 
Millikin won game two 12-2 in seven innings. The Big Blue left no doubt in game two scoring four runs in the first and two more in the second.
 
Liam McGill propelled the Millikin office with three hits, two runs scored and one RBI.
Kameron Ross had a double and a triple. Busher and Eliot Fulscher each added two hits. Bennett Comes had a two-run home run for Millikin in the second inning.
 
Millikin used five pitchers in the game with the win going to Griffin Neuweg throwing to scoreless and hitless innings.
 
Millikin finished the regular season at 22-18, 11-9 while Wheaton falls to 16-24, 8-12.
 
The Big Blue have locked up the four seed in the CCIW Tournament and will play the five seed on Wednesday, May 7 at Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, Illinois.
