Millikin Advances in CCIW Tournament

The Millikin baseball team defeated Wheaton College 5-2 on May 7 to move on to the next round of the 2025 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Baseball Tournament being played at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois.

Millikin jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the first inning. Liam McGill doubled down the third base line to start the inning. After a Thunder error moved him to third, Tyler Gade drove in McGill with a fielder's choice ground ball. Gade scored on a ground out by Ty Cribbett to make to 2-0 Millikin.

Gade homered in the third to give Millikin a 3-0 advantage.

Daniel Hillyer had an RBI single to get the Thunder on the board in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Millikin's Julian Cabanin had an RBI double and Kolby Koslofski had a sacrifice fly to drive in the second run of the inning to make it 5-1.

Wheaton scored a single run in the seventh. Braden Engel opened the inning with a double and scored on a wild pitch to make it a 5-2 game.

The Big Blue got a stellar pitching performance from CCIW First-Year Student-Athlete of the Year Caleb Akins who threw eight innings allowing five hits and two runs while striking out seven. Freshman Nolan Reiman pitched a scoreless ninth allowing one hit for his sixth save of the season.

Millikin is now 23-18 while Wheaton finishes the season at 16-25.
