The Millikin women's soccer team battled a tough 6-2 loss to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Saturday afternoon at Frank M. Lindsay Field. The match kicked off at noon, with the Big Blue looking to build momentum on their home turf.
La Crosse came out strong, scoring five goals in the first half. Amaya Thesing opened the scoring in the 9th minute, followed quickly by goals from Aubree Caya (10th minute), Jillian Sawadski (13th), Grace Williams (33rd), and Sera Speltz (35th), giving the Eagles a commanding 5-0 lead.
Millikin responded in the 40th minute with a goal from Hailie Schafman—her second of the season.
In the second half, the Big Blue continued to battle. Izzy Jones netted her third goal of the year in the 64th minute, assisted by Avery Bingham, bringing the score to 5-2. However, Wisconsin-La Crosse sealed the game with a late goal by Logan Fritsch in the 80th minute.
Millikin Women's Soccer will be back in action on Wednesday at 3:00 PM, hosting Trine University at home.
