The Millikin University women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought home match against Trine University on Wednesday afternoon, falling 3-1 at Frank M. Lindsay Field.

Trine opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a goal from Lilly White. The Thunder extended their lead in the 63rd minute when Maggie McDowell converted a penalty kick to make it 2-0.

Millikin responded just seven minutes later, as Melis Barutcu buried a penalty kick in the 70th minute for her first goal of the season, cutting the deficit to 2-1. However, Trine answered quickly with a third goal in the 73rd minute from Samantha Sanderlin, assisted by Julia Benham, to seal the 3-1 victory.

The Big Blue will look to bounce back on Sunday, September 21, when they host Illinois College at 3:00 p.m. at home.
