The Millikin Women's Soccer team opened CCIW play on Saturday night with a 1-4 loss to the Carthage Firebirds.
Carthage got on the board early in the 12th minute with a goal from Emma Amberg, assisted by Ashley Gorder. Amberg would strike again just after halftime in the 49th minute, this time assisted by Peyton Olinski, giving the Firebirds a 2-0 advantage.
Olinski added a goal of her own in the 59th minute to extend Carthage's lead to three.
The Big Blue responded in the 64th minute when Izzy Jones found the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season. Jones was assisted by Hailie Schafman, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
Carthage sealed the game in the 87th minute with a goal from Bella Fusco, once again assisted by Gorder.
Millikin returns home for a matchup against WashU on Tuesday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m. at Frank M. Lindsay Field.
