Slow Offensive Start Halts Big Blue against League-Leading #19 Illinois Wesleyan

The Big Blue women's basketball team met the #19 Titans of Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday, January 28. The Titans are tied for the league-leading slot, but fell to #16 Carroll by 20 over the weekend.

After the Titans opened the game on a 17-point run, Millikin found themselves down 5-25 at the first quarter break and by 30 points at the half.

Millikin was led by Bella Dudley in scoring with 14 points. Nikkel Johnson added 13. Kyleigh Heimsness was the leading rebounder, reeling in four.

The Big Blue gave the ball away 24 times, with 20 coming in the first half. Millikin hung with the #19 Titans in the second half, nearly outscoring them, 39-41.

Sara Balli and Ava Bardic each tallied 17 points for the Titans, and Leah Palmer added 12.

Despite a cold-shooting first quarter, the Big Blue shot 23-for-54 from the field for a 42.6% efficiency.

The Big Blue will look to bounce back on Saturday, January 31 when they host Elmhurst for a 2:00 PM tipoff. The game will serve as youth day, with the Big Blue players set to sign autographs for young, aspiring players in attendance at the conclusion of the game.
