Men's Tennis Posts 2-0 Day in Iowa with Wins over Simpson and Cornell

The Millikin men's tennis team traveled to Mount Vernon, Iowa for a pair of matches against Iowa squads hosted by Cornell. The Big Blue started off the day with a sweeping 7-0 victory over Simpson College, then downed the host Rams 5-2.

Against Simpson, the Big Blue swept doubles play with the No. 3 team of Nils Fischer and Elijah Aumann kicking it off in a 6-0 victory over Darek Kayser and Gavin Pierce. Matthew Kordesh and Thomas Tartari followed suit with a 6-0 win at No. 2 over Seth Orta and Reid Jackson. Rounding out the sweep was the team of Gillian Nahum and Jorge Aura, who downed Grant Love and Hudson Christie 6-4 at No. 1.

On the singles side, Nahum picked up a win over Love, 6-0, 6-1. Kordesh was the victor at No. 2 over Christie in 6-2, 6-0 sets. Tartari saw an identical verdict, winning 6-2, 6-0 over Orta at No. 3. Aura defeated Kayser 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4, followed by a win from Fischer at No. 5, 6-1, 6-0. Aumann secured the final victory at No. 6, defeating Pierce 6-0, 6-2. 

In their second match of the day, Nahum and Aura teamed up again for a doubles win at No. 1 over Jack Saunders and Henry Lambley, winning 6-2. Fischer and Eduardo Vargas teamed up for the No. 3 victory to secure the doubles point, defeating Sam Cumicek and Matthew Oshiro 6-0. 

On the singles side, Kordesh earned his second individual victory of the day, downing Saunders 6-2, 6-1. Tartari used twin 6-4 sets to defeat Zachary Ong at No. 3. In a three-set thriller, Vargas defeated Lambley at No. 4, 7-5, 3-6, 10-8. The final singles victory was earned by Aura at No. 5, winning 6-1, 3-6, 10-6. 

The Big Blue will host their first home match of the season, meeting Franklin College at Bloomington Tennis and turf on Sunday, February 22 with match time set for 4:00 PM.
