Millikin Baseball took on the Illinois Wesleyan Titans in a doubleheader, splitting the day with a 9–8 extra-inning win in game one and a 4–3 loss in game two.
In game one, Millikin came out strong, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding four more in the second to build a 6–0 lead. Illinois Wesleyan answered with four runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to cut the deficit to 6–5.
In the sixth,
Sam Bushur brought in
Kolby Koslofski to make it 7–5. The Titans responded again in the seventh, scoring twice to take an 8–7 lead.
Millikin answered in the bottom of the ninth when Bushur drove in
Trey Thompson to tie the game and send it into extra innings.
The game remained tied until the 12th inning, when
Aiden Simmons delivered a clutch double, bringing home
Carder Reich. Millikin secured the 9–8 win.
On the mound,
Caleb Akins started for the Big Blue, pitching six innings with seven hits allowed, seven strikeouts, and eight runs.
Gavin Houchins followed with a strong outing, throwing five innings, allowing four hits, striking out five, and not giving up a run.
In game two,
Ty Cribbett got the Big Blue going early with a two-run home run in the first inning. In the second,
Anderson Decker hit a sacrifice fly that scored
Easton Steck to extend the lead to 3–0.
The Titans battled back with one run in the third and two in the fifth to tie the game. Illinois Wesleyan then added a run in the ninth to secure a 4–3 win.
Matthew Brummer started on the mound, pitching eight innings while allowing three runs, six hits. and recording six strikeouts.
Brody Stonecipher came in for relief, allowing two hits and one run.
Offensively,
Ty Cribbett led the way on the day, going 3-for-8 with four RBIs, including a home run and a double.
