Softball Secures First Win in Opening Day Doubleheader Split

The Millikin softball team opened their 2026 campaign at the Workman Family Softball Field in Decatur, Ill. against the Panthers of Greenville University on Friday, March 6.

In game one, the Big Blue fell 1-3. The Panthers scored all three runs on solo shots, two off the bat of Anna Cox and one from Ashlyn Colvis. The Big Blue scratched a run across in the bottom of the seventh on an infield single with the bases loaded by Charley Condill. The Big Blue left nine runners on base in the loss, including loading the bases in the seventh with no outs.

Condill went 3-for-4 from the plate in game one, and Abby Willis was 2-for-3.

In game two, the Big Blue defeated Greenville 5-4. The Panthers started the game off scoring three runs in the top of the first. Millikin answered with a trio of their own in the bottom of the second, starting with Abby Willis knocking in two runs on a double that plated Ava Zukowski and Bella Palermo. Condill placed a double down the left field line to score Willis and tie the game at three apiece.

Greenville quickly regained the lead with a run in the top of the third. The Big Blue used a two-run fifth inning to pull ahead and never looked back. A Summer Wynn single scored Condill, then Cierra Jones crossed the plate on a Kailyn Coates single to center.

Wynn and Zukowski were each 2-for-3 from the plate. The Big Blue tallied nine hits in the win.

In the circle, Abby Wilken tossed 5.1 innings and allowed just one run to pick up her first win of the season. Alyssa Dralle entered the game in the sixth to finish out the final 1.1 innings, holding the Panthers hitless and earning a save.

The Big Blue start off the season 1-1 with the split. They return to the Workman Family Softball Field on Saturday, March 7 for matchups against Coe and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, with game one slated for 11:00 AM.
