Softball Falls to UWSP, Coe, With Redemption Chances Sunday

The Millikin softball team took the field on Saturday, March 7 against UW-Stevens Point and Coe in the second day of their home opening tournament. The Big Blue went 0-2 on the day with the chance for redemption Sunday, where they will meet both squads again.

In the first game of the day, the Big Blue fell to Stevens Point 1-17. The Pointers scored two runs in each of the first two innings, three in the third, then put up 10 in the final two innings to end the game in five. Millikin was held to just five hits and used four different pitchers.

Charley Condill, Kailyn Coates, Ava Zukowski, and Emily Kobel each tallied a hit for Millikin. 

Against Coe, the Big Blue started off with the lead, with Condill scoring on a Summer Wynn single. The Kohawks put up a run of their own in the fourth to tie the game on a Millikin error.

The Big Blue answered in the bottom of the fourth when Ava Zukowski's double scored Bella Palermo to take a 2-1 lead. The Kohawks once again had an answer, adding three runs in the fifth to take a 2-5 advantage.

Millikin chipped away at the lead with Wynn earning another RBI in the bottom of the fifth but could not overcome the deficit.

In game two, Wynn, Coates, and Palermo all went 2-for-4 from the plate.Alyssa Dralle allowed just six hits through 7.0 innings of work, striking out five.

Millikin will meet Stevens Point in their first game of the day on Sunday, March 8 with first pitch set for 12:30 PM from the Workman Family Softball Field.
