Softball Cruises to Two Wins against Wheaton on Senior Day

The Big Blue softball team took the field for senior day on Saturday, May 4 against the Thunder of Wheaton College in Decatur, Ill. After celebrating the four seniors, Ava Zukowski, Lauren Argo, Kailyn Coates, and Haley Willan, Millikin got on the board first in game one.

In the bottom of the first inning, Charley Condill's leadoff single and stolen base put her in scoring position on an RBI single up the middle off the bat of Abby Willis. Then, Willis and Ann Marie Meek crossed the plate on a double off the left field fence by Summer Wynn. Up 3-0, the senior Coates brought Wynn home on a deep sacrifice fly to center.

The Big Blue added another pair of runs on a Meek double to left field in the fifth with Brianna Denault and Zukowski crossing the plate. Wynn's sacrifice fly followed by a Thunder throwing error was responsible for the final two runs needed to end the game in five innings, giving Millikin the 8-0 victory with Meek and Willis scoring.

In game one, Willis and Meek each went 2-for-3 from the plate. Alyssa Dralle earned the win in the circle, allowing just four hits and striking out four through her 5.0 innings of work.
In game two, the Big Blue struck first again in the bottom of the first, loading up the bases for Abbey Matthews to deliver a bases clearing, three RBI triple. She later scored on a wild pitch to give Millikin a 4-0 lead.

In the second, another run came home on Wynn's RBI single up the middle that plated Willis. The Big Blue capitalized on a Thunder error in the second, with Meek scoring when Coates reached on the error. A Willan single to left center scored Summer Wynn.

Millikin scored their eighth run in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Matthews, then held Wheaton in the top of the fifth to win game two 8-0 in five innings.

In game two, Wynn went 2-for-3 from the plate. Abby Wilken was the pitching victor, allowing just three hits in her 5.0 innings.

The Big Blue will close out their 2026 regular season campaign at the Workman Family Softball Field on Sunday, May 3 when they meet the Vikings of North Park University for a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin doubleheader at 1:00 & 3:00 PM.
